One of the things we need to ask about church events as well as the elements of worship can be summed up in a single word:
Why?
Everything we do needs to be put to the test of this question – “why do we do the things we do?” Does this particular event or element of church further the purpose of our ministry? I think for a lot of us in ministry, this isn’t a question we really need to spend too much time on. We already have a ministry philosophy and a strategy to implement it.
But there is another question I have been asking myself lately. Am I communicating the intentionality of our programs and strategy? Does everyone know the “why” behind the “what”?
NLCYG:
For this reason, this Sunday we will be starting a short sermon series titled, “Intentional Liturgy”. We will be going over the different elements of our corporate worship, and examining the reason(s) for those elements. One of the things that I hope for us (myself included) would be a deeper understanding of our worship services. I think it’ll be a good series, and hopefully a blessing one as well!
